Laboo aims to empower university students (ages 18–25) to improve their mental wellness through innovative, approachable, and user-centered solutions. By reducing the stigma surrounding mental health services, Laboo creates an environment where students feel comfortable seeking help and maintaining engagement.

According to the 2022 China Adolescent Suicide Report, China has the highest suicide rate among teenagers globally, with approximately 100,000 adolescents dying from suicide each year. That means two children die every minute, and eight attempt suicide.

Are we, as university students, also growing up into unhappy adults?
Our recent survey of 486 university students revealed troubling statistics:

feel stressed or anxious in daily life

believe mental health is a critical social issue

have sought psychological counseling or therapy
Market Overview
Massive Demand, Low Accessibility
The need for mental health support among Gen Z is significant, but access remains limited due to high costs and lack of awareness. Many students find the price of traditional counseling services too high for casual experimentation.

Gap in the Market
Current services mostly cater to individuals with severe psychological issues, leaving a gap in support for those experiencing mild mental health concerns—many of whom don’t require clinical intervention but need guidance and coping mechanisms.

Limitations of AI-Based Counseling Services
Although AI counseling services are affordable, they tend to be overly generic and lack empathy, personalization, and long-term support, which limits their effectiveness for users seeking meaningful mental health improvements.

Our Core Solutions
I. Long-Term Online Support
Stage 1: Personality Identification
Using intelligent psychological scales, students can answer questions via voice, drawing, and other interactive methods, making the process engaging and fun. We analyze their responses using voice recognition, image analysis, and semantic analysis to assess their mental health, cognitive patterns, and overall psychological traits. This helps identify individuals who may need further medical attention and sets the stage for connecting students with the right support groups.
Stage 2: Daily Tracking
Our AI-powered emotional diary app helps students improve psychological resilience through self-disclosure. By applying principles of positive psychology, the app encourages users to record their thoughts, with real-time motivational feedback. Afterward, it generates personalized responses and tracks emotional changes over time, offering a monthly mood report.
Stage 3: Mild Intervention Courses
Based on daily tracking, the app recommends tailored online psychological courses, such as mindfulness and active listening. We are collaborating with professors from Peking University’s Institute of Psychological and Cognitive Science to launch a mindfulness course.
II. Mindfulness Workshops
We organizes mindfulness workshops to support students’ mental well-being. We have hosted events at Peking University and Tsinghua University in natural settings, such as forest parks, and have worked with certified mindfulness instructors. Our activities include:
-
Mindfulness Meditation: Evidence shows mindfulness therapy significantly improves symptoms of depression and anxiety.
-
Nature Observation: Engaging with nature, such as observing tree leaves, helps shift focus away from personal stress, which can reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms. Research shows that focusing on external elements can foster positive emotions, enhance problem-solving, and improve mood—an approach particularly effective for Chinese university students.
-
Afternoon Tea Discussions: Self-disclosure plays a vital role in reducing symptoms of depression among young adults. Our informal group discussions encourage openness and personal sharing in a supportive environment.
